The Rig is Finally Gone
As we rushed to town on Thursday at a little after 10AM, we saw the oil rig being transported at long last. There were so many people looking and photographing at various points on Rocks Road I'm sure there are gazillion photos (ok, a dozen?) of it on the Internet by now. We posted this twice before, here and here.

I saw the rig being towed out in Cook Strait on Thursday when I flew back into Nelson - it looked quite surreal in the middle of the blue ...

Maybe a chance to lower petrol prices there yet? Ever hopeful the cost of living will drop by the time I get to retire there (actually been hoping since they started drilling the Maui field back in the 60's???). Petrol price per litre around $1.49-$1.53 here in Sydney at the moment. How beautiful is the weather! Only as I have ever seen it in Nelson. Lesley Expat Kiwi
ReplyDeleteIt must have been quite an undertaking to move that big thing.
ReplyDeleteYesterday's post is sad indeed. Meg will need something else to divert her attention at the dentest.
Faye, I think I read that they were indeed waiting for the weather to settle.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see the rig was temporary. You have too pretty of a view to be marred by the steel "skyscrapers".
ReplyDeleteOil rig or no, it's still a beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteModern sculpture, like, depending on where you look at it from... Gee, yet another superbly-constructed sentence by me.
