Every Last One...

Among the flowers in our garden this year, I love my dark blue delphiniums, and the darker the flowers the better. When they grown in our own place, I can't throw away any part of them, so the smaller stalks have been bunched into a small vase. And I noticed the loveliness of the curves I hadn't seen before. Bliss.

First Harvest

Almost two months ago I bought 4 baby strawberry plants, but they were growing so slowly I got a bigger one and plonked that in the middle of the same tub.  Even that one is growing tentatively, so I think Ben and I have to move the tub to a slightly sunnier spot in our not-very-sunny garden.

Anyway, we had our first harvest this morning.  Not very sweet, but fresh and a little tangy.  The longer one measured just a little shorter than 2cm.

Changes

This sort of thing happens all the time, but I'm feeling a tad nostalgic.  For as long as we know this was the Air New Zealand coner; back in 1992 when we visited New Zealand the first time, we confirmed our return flight home in their office that used to be here.  (Then we drove to Picton, took a tiny hydroplane to the Kapiti Coast, then flew on Mt Cook Airlines, we think, to Auckland.)

Recently they relocated, and one of the very few wholly New-Zealand-Owned banks moved in.  And good for them.

Very hot day.  I wonder how those golfers are doing.  It's all hazy over the water...  Yesterday 6:53pm.

Maybe just slightly exaggerated in colour but the cloud was very interesting.

I'm not sure what's it's called, but...

The former home of Mac beer was looking a bit sad after the brewery moved to Wellington, but in the last few years, they started/resumed making vodka, ciders and now, once again, some craft/boutique beer.  The establishment sits at the side of the road, behind some trees, between Nelson and Stoke (a suburb of Nelson) and Richmond (the main town in the next, Tasman, district), and we must have passed by many, many times, especially before they built the bypass by the sea.

A couple of Saturdays ago, after getting Ben's ribs and bacon at the butcher shop up the road, we went into their cafe for the very first time.  You can bring your own plastic bottles and buy beer or cider, or sit down to have coffee and some yummy food.  While we were there, an older couple was enjoying coffee, and I overheard the gentleman was gently coaxing the cafe staff to add carrot cake on to their menu.  Hear, hear!

For more exact dates, products, etc., check out their website or be a fun at their facebook page.

Pestell's Rai Bacon Co.

My favourite "Manuka Smoked Bacon" comes from this shop... ( and odd parts/bits of meat like fresh OX tail, tongue for winter stew).

eDay (Yesterday)

Another successfully eDay event yesterday (annual event).

I dropped an old printer which has broken printer head which cost to fix more than new printer set.   This is around 10:30am and already lots of people queued at dropping point.  There was another volunteer waiting and he take our printer kindly as he could take it in. I did not need to be in the queue and U-turned and take this pic.   Good thinking guys and tanks for effort and volunteer work.

Ooops

I think it was last night Ben asked me to post something today.  I've been tackling a weaving conundrum and completely forgot about it.  It's a "problem" I've been trying to tackle for months, and it appears so darned easy and yet illusive.  When I finally get it, I'm going to kick myself, I'm sure, but until then, you'll have to excuse me.
