Mates

I spotted this guy taking pictures in pretty bad wind Friday afternoon.
And these guys waving back. So, not the big city high rise, but in that wind, it's still a pretty gutsy job.

Full of Beans

Ben's a good cook, but last night he made me Bean Curry which is sure to become one of the most memorable. It had just the right amount of beans and veggies to make the spices come alive without overpowering. Tasty!!

Dinner

Ben's Green-lipped mussels steamed in white wine and garlic with shallots, spring onions and taragon. With asparagus and my ugly-but-tasty bread of many grains. We apologize; we watched "Spirited Away" during dinner.

A Familiar Tree

While I was in Japan, I read a dozen Japanese books on van Gogh. Japan has reciprocal affinity with Impressionists, and by extension people who followed in the various post-Imporessionist-isms, but especially with Monet, Renoir and van Gogh. I saw several original painting from this era in variouso permanent collections.

And now I see that there are some Vincent-esque views in Nelson as well. This tree can be seen as I approach the Suter Art Gallery from the back; straight ahead is Queens Gardens, and the small brick structure is where the Mangatapu Murder-accused were jailed.

Half Bold

It's already October, is it? I've been gone on two trips to Japan this year, first because my dad was sick and then because he died, so I've been in Nelson for only two and a half months all year.

Yesterday I walked around town for the first time in months, and among other things, noticed this small hill behind the central business district. Because it was rainy and cloudy all day, it doesn't look so bad in the picture, but the red hillside looked stark and alarming in real life,
