Strange Cloud

There was a strange shaped clod on Friday, way back from work.

BTW. I don't know when this one has been built at Wakefield Quay and may be same time(?) the wharf part has been closed for people.
Forks used to go there for fishing.  Although, I do not know if it is a permanent, may be because needed for busy load/unload operation of containers...

Snowy Weather

I haven't seen the show on that hill for looooooooooong time or could be the first time in my life in Nelson. (Maybe my second time, actually).

Cold Spell

I wish I took this picture right after I got up, instead of an hour later, having started the fire, spoken to the plumber, (major leak problem outside) and such this morning.  When the surrounding was darker, the snow was shining and the hills even more dramatic.

I can't remember seeing snow this low, but I've just been informed by someone who was in Motueka this morning that the snow is right down to sea level in Mot, a first in 36 years!

It has been cold this morning, but what with plumber and rushing in and out to bring more firewood inside, (we now have four days' worth inside, I think,) I haven't felt too cold just yet.

Pasta Making Demonstration

They were making a very very very loooooooooooong pasta.

I'm not sure every time they do the same, but this is open during the school holidays at Farmers Market (every Wednesday).

Where there is Smoke

I've been rushing outside all morning to see how much smoke is coming from our chimney.

We got down to about 1/4 of our firewood last week so we ordered the second lot, which we were warmed were rain-wet.  Then it rained and rained and rained.  On the weekend we managed to evacuate most of the second lot to a sunnier and slightly windier (when it blows) position, stacked with plenty of gaps.  Every day I carry two or three nights' worth inside and stack them around the fire box.  It's been a rather analog season for this ex-townie.

Coloring in the Grand Canyon

Coloring was a bad idea when I was five; it feels like a worse one when I'm 53.  It's part of a design study, and I swear, I would have done a better job had I had the 1000 colors set.  It took one hour to do one version and I managed four this afternoon; I think that's more than enough.

Urban Sprawl

About the only room in the house I don't use for my work is... the bedroom, though I do have yarn samples, woven samples, and books there, too. (I leave the loo door open on when I make a warp in the hallway; either I take advantage of the sky light, or turn the loo light on.)  I try not to have stuff living on top of the coffee table any more, so lately they seem to live between the table and the television. But I do work with them and put them away - the stuff taking up this space changes every couple of weeks.

Too Early or Too Late?

I had a pretty good start to the autumn/winter gardening this season, a miracle!, but it's been cold, then I got busy, and then it's been raining more or less continuously, and the place is looking sad again.  Still, the plants have their own schedule.  Ben's roses are ready for the next season, and the trees, plants (and weeds!!) are happy with the dumping of rain, and the bright sun in between.

The New Zealand Tomato Sauce Tomato

For my friend Cally Booker of Scotland. Good luck. One day you might miss your studies and embark on another PhD.  Or not.

It was a crisp and chilly day, but sunlight is very bright. Here is an abstract shot of water surface under fountain @ Queens Garden.

Knitters Project

According to the Nelson Mail article here, it is a  group of Nelson knitters dress the city in winter woollies for the Rugby World Cup.

It is very colourful and cheerful.  I wonder which one is next...  Could be a signal or lamp pole...
