Thistle

Details of Thistle Scarf, pick up, by June McKenzie. And it's reversible.

Our Area Exhibit opened last night at the McKee at the Suter. What did I think? Well, there's plenty over here.

Suffice it to say, I should learn not to get so wound up the night before I give another speech at Toastmasters; I finally felt semi-sleepy at 1:45, and I was up before 5:30.

  1. i dont know why but these motives remind me of the Norvegian pullovers' style

  2. Well, it does look like a knitted pattern, Zsolt, and Norwegian? That I'm not sure - I thought the flag of Norway was blue and yellow, but Google showed me it's red, white and blue. Perhaps something to do with your experiences traveling there?

  3. I agree with Zsolt, there is a Norwegian (or Swedish, for that matter, we’re the ones with the blue and yellow flag) flavour to all of this. Their (or our) pullovers can have all sorts of vivid colours, not necessarily related to any flag. And these kinds of patterns. I’ve worn a lot of this as a kid. Handmade by Mom. Ops, there I go down memory lane………………… :)

  4. Don'r go unraveling. I'll bet you are a class A weaver. I would love to hear your speech on optical illusions.

  5. Per, a monthly theme - what do children in your city wear? You must post a photo of such a sweater!

Sue, well, it was a bit of a disaster. My mind really went white. Darn... It was an eye-opener.

  6. Meg, the number of kids in my vicinity is sort of limited but I won’t give up right away. Let me chew on that one for a while… :)

  8. Per, take your time - maybe you'd have to wait until your next winter?

Faye, thanks! That's what I thought at first, until I came home and was cropping the image!

  9. Meg, I should be able to locate something in the attic but it’d be a lot more interesting to see something kids are wearing these days and preferably with a kid in it. No promises. I should add that the Norwegians are a lot better then we are at nurturing traditions so you’d see a lot more of this in Norway, just like Zsolt hinted at earlier on.

  10. Aha! So Zsolt's comment was much deeper than I had imagined. Well-spotted, Zsolt, and thanks for that, Per.

Of course, if you do find a sweater or something in the attic, Per, you could try getting back into it, and we'll have a ex-kid in an ex-kid's sweater!

  12. It's nice to remember about things you wanted as a child. The other day, I wore a wool scarf that, believe it or not, I was given as Christmas present when I was 3 years old. I remember being very disappointed because it wasn't a toy.
