  1. No, no, no, no, they were going to be there for when I retired! I feel like I am running out of time....... Nelson is changing so fast now, what can we do to get the old Nelson back on track? We need to start thinking. Any ideas out there?

  3. The slow demise of Nelson-ness, from our perspective, started in around 2000, and to some degree, I think, all over New Zealand. A lot of money and serious wealth came into NZ with America's Cup and people's expectations in life changed rather rapidly. And then NZ had a longish economic boom. I remember the main Trafalgar Street started to feel different around then.

Closing of shops seem to come in waves to match the lease renewal season. It would be nice to get the perspective of long time residents, though. I might go around and ask.
