"Sentinel sails in the Queens Gardens pond. The steel sculpture was inspired by the base of the Nikau palm frond and refers to the waka and ships which brought waves or people to Aotearoa New Zealand. In 1998 work by Dominique de Borrekens and Grant Scott honouirs the Nelson settlers who planted these beautiful gardens over 100 years ago," according to the map. I used to have lunch at the Suter Gallery cafe roughly to the right of this pond and wondered why they hadn't taken it out!

ReplyDeleteMerisi, some say it's finally summer here, but the department stores are starting to bring out the autumn clothes. I can go either way - I like cool/cold weather, but this summer has been very short.
Re. the sculpture, folks, it's really a nice piece and probably bigger than it appears in this photo. I might try to go back and see if I can capture another side.
Lovely variety of greens here, I wonder if you could have caught a better reflection of the sculpture... looked interesting!
