"Sentinel sails in the Queens Gardens pond. The steel sculpture was inspired by the base of the Nikau palm frond and refers to the waka and ships which brought waves or people to Aotearoa New Zealand. In 1998 work by Dominique de Borrekens and Grant Scott honouirs the Nelson settlers who planted these beautiful gardens over 100 years ago," according to the map.
And you caught me out; I just uploaded the photo intending to write about it latter, and instead of saving as draft, I published it. Sooooo... now the details.
ohh looks like an old Chinese type boat on the river. Very nice
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting! I like the place where this weird sculpture stands...
ReplyDeleteWow, you're on wednesday now! ;)
Queen's Garden?
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool. Makes me want to stand there and watch the water and just contemplate.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a serene and calming place. You've captured it very well.
ReplyDeleteIt remindes me the 7 star hotel Burj El Arab in Dubai...
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visits, in spite of my small error. I have to admit that for years I thought this was something old that used to look nice, but had passed its use-by date. I used to have lunch at the Suter Gallery cafe roughly to the right of this pond and wondered why they hadn't taken it out!
ReplyDeleteOya, I know which one you mean; I've seen photos.
It looks sooo nice & summery - it's freezing here in Rhode Island, USA.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful and calming! It makes me wish I were there...
ReplyDeletewow, what a great setting for the sculpture.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sculpture an photograph!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Thank you for your visits, people. It is quite nice, isn't it? (She says, trying not to remember what she thought of it a few years ago!)
ReplyDeleteI love those sculptures that stop you in your tracks, and make you reflect on what it really represents. I love this one at first sight. And the setting is sheer serenity. Looks like you're dipping slowly into autumn.
ReplyDeleteI like the sculpture. it's very interesting!
ReplyDeleteooo.. nice. nice... :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody.
ReplyDeleteMerisi, some say it's finally summer here, but the department stores are starting to bring out the autumn clothes. I can go either way - I like cool/cold weather, but this summer has been very short.
Re. the sculpture, folks, it's really a nice piece and probably bigger than it appears in this photo. I might try to go back and see if I can capture another side.
Lovely variety of greens here, I wonder if you could have caught a better reflection of the sculpture... looked interesting!
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea, Nathalie. I think on that day the pond was full of leaves and flower petals, but I might go look at the reflection next time. Thanks!
ReplyDeletecool.........:)
ReplyDeleteHot and humid, Zannnie!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful setting for an attractive sculpture. I like the light in the picture too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carlos. I went back there again yesterday to try to see if I can shoot the reflections in the harsh afternoon light. It was an interesting experience.
