I mentioned Wilkins & Fields in relation to Neale & Haddow here. After the Mega store opened last April, the old store in the middle of town, which by then had expanded to nearly an entire city-block, was sold to developers, and now a mini-mall is under way. Happily, the facades of what were originally two or three different stores facing Hardy Street are to remain pretty much the same.I love the glass windows at the entrance of the old shop.
Very good on recycling the buildings. And the photo looks nice too.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your visits, people. I understand there are all these women's clothing stores going in to this new mini mall; at least that's the plan. How boring; we already have enough clothing stores, but not nearly enough bookshops!
ReplyDeleteIts good that the Nelson City Council shows some respect for the city history and architecture! Not in Auckland, demolition is underway as we speak on Remuera and Broadway...
ReplyDeleteLachezar, I don't know Remuera well, but Broadway had some nice old commercial buildings - kind of like how Nelson to this day. Old residential buildings, though, in Nelson, that's a whole different story. So much are turning into boring (and not really long-lasting) apartments. At least they are not the tall ones as in Auckland...
