Summer
Very hot December this year.
In our CBD, there are full of those flower basket hungering to ease the feel.

Don't Cry, Babies
I heard these guys before I saw them, by the barber shop on Bank Lane at the Mongomery Car Park end. They must have been waiting for their human while he got a haircut; every time the door opened they cried like it was the end of the world, poor things, but otherwise they looked alright.

Nelson Mail Again
I realize Ben posted a very similar shot just a fortnight ago, but I had to do mine. It's a sad day when the local newspaper will no longer be printed in town. It's not only the job loss, but certainly news will have to be filed earlier, or go on to the next day, and then what happens when transportation is hampered as in the fuel shortage similar to Auckland Airport recently, or road closure on State Highway 1 that happens all too often with heavy rain or earthquakes; that stretch is still not fixed since the Kaikoura quake last November 13. There should be considerations more important than just the bottom line, surely. Or will the paper eventually disappear altogether and will remain online only?

It's Sprung
This is the big magnolia tree by the Information Centre parking lot, on Halifax Street. The flowers are finished, but it's covered in the most cheerful yellow green leaves now.

I love Repairs
I know I've posted the former TOPZ premise, a tiny shop about 50 meters from the current location. They make fabulous clogs and sandals, as well as sell boots made in Dunedin. They are also one of the very few shops in Nelson that repair things.
On Friday I wanted the heels of one of my favorite pairs fixed, and dropped them off first thing in the morning and said I'd come pick them up before they close at 5. Naughty me, I was having so much fun talking to a girlfriend I arrive just as the owner was driving away, in that tiny yellow car, at around 5.07. He saw me and reopened the shop and let me get my shoes. And they were fixed for a mere $20.
So, cheers to local heroes.

Baby Got Black
Great burger at Burger Culture.
I quite liked this black bun they served. This title of post is the name of menu in picture. The onion ring is a extra side.. It was quite filling and very tasty and satisfactory.

Spring Weather
The cherry blossoms are 90% open, later than usual, and the tree is producing about 60-70% of flowers this year. And here, as in Japan, those delicate flowers opening up means open season for rain/wind and this week we might even have thunder and lighting to make things interesting, before spring settles in.
The weather has been extraordinarily rewarding to conscientious gardeners; fairly consistent rain-sun-rain-sun cycle combined with sudden warming; flagrantly embarrassing for others of us. Crikey.

It's just start blooming... Today is very overcast day and little chilly breeze.
This tiny flower is in full of energy and gently swinging in the wind.

Ben's Almond Meal Cheesecake, Version We-Can't-Remember
Don't ask for a recipe; it's different every time depending on what we have and what comes out of Ben's head, but this one is smashingly good.

Position Shop Sign between Pink Lines
Volume, the best small bookshop in this galaxy, is on Church Street. Nelson City Council began the process of upgrading Church St, dubbing it the Bohemian District, and one of the first jobs was to locate the infrastructure underground. Something went wrong, leaving Volume without power first, then a generator behind a wall kicking in, causing, and here I paraphrase, a hum so loud they couldn't hear themselves think. Oh, the perils of good bookselling.

Urban
Urban has been award several awards, one of the recent being best bar restaurant in Nelson in the latest issue of our regional magazine, Wild Tomato; I think that's what I read while waiting for our takeaway order yesterday at the Chinese restaurant across the street on Hardy, although I can't find the article. The premise used to be our favorite place some years ago, an Italian restaurant called When in Rome.

Bank Lane Canopy Upgrade
My friend Maria works in a company that, I think, makes ship sails, but they also make awesome awnings and similar all over Nelson. This one is in Bank Lane, a path I've used countless times but did not know had a name, and one of few connecting our main drag, Trafalgar St, and Montgomery car park, where the Saturday Market is held. The tiniest coffee shop, Blink, had regulars coming and going, many with their won reusable cup.
