Lake Tennyson - Rainbow Road
From Rainbow Ski Field south of Nelson to Hanmer Springs, there is a fantastic 4WD road called the "Rainbow Road" we are allowed to travel only in summer. It passes through a few sheep stations (ranches). We happened to travel there on the first weekend of March, the day before it closed. Lake Tennyson is at the Hanmer Spring end. Camping is allowed. Another shot taken on this road can be found here.

I like your shot. I did not understand your comment immediatly (summer travels and a closing in March were paradoxal for me) as summer takes place nowadays in the northern hemisphere.
ReplyDeleteWow. That is achingly beautiful. I want to live in a cave looking out on that scene.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I just noticed your list of city photoblogs - would you consider adding my Dallas Texas blog http://dallasdiorama.blogspot.com ? Also, there is a superb London blog (I don't know them) called "Derelict London" which I think you would also appreciate.
ReplyDeleteLouise, it was really peaceful there, except the cow (can you see her?) kept looking at us, which made me very nervous because I was wearing a red T-shirt.
ReplyDeleteMatthieu, it took me seven years to get used to it. We're heading into spring now.
Cristina, Ben will be tickled pink when he reads your comment.
Phlegmfatale, thank you for your compliment. Had a great time in Dallas in 87. I emailed you about the links; I hope it helps.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a complement.
I love taking a photo even more.
Now I should go to the old pile to dig some good one as well as taking new. ;-)
beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteThank you Tanty and Lisi.
ReplyDeleteI took this with my 35mm SLR. (Slight imperfection is result of my scanning skill)
I like this shot as well as another one linked from the post.
Gorgeous, both light and dark enhance the overall effect. Would love to go there!
ReplyDeleteThank you kate.
ReplyDeleteMy personal favourite on this series is posted at my sketchbook site (Rainbow Road from like on post).
It has naturally highlighted (sun was shining at only small area) place at far side.
It has also captured a very wide area to see how big the place was.
This one is so calm and it looks like a very good oil painting at glance.
That is what I like most in this shot.
