Mini Construction Rush
I was shocked to find myself shocked to see this, as, having grown up in Japan in the 60's and the 70's, construction was an everyday, everywhere occurrence. There is a mini construction rush now in Nelson due to strengthening/rebuilding quake-safe structures. This is the back of yesterday's site, and even had what looked to be a temporary container en-site office.

Tall Buildings
Since the quakes in Christchurch begun, particularly after the Feb 22, 2011 one, public buildings in Nelson are being inspected, presumably more carefully. Several have undergone strengthening, and several have been condemned. Here, on Colllingwood St, stood a lovely wooden two-story home which, since we came to Nelson, was variously a shop, a gallery and a methadone clinic. Ben tells me this is going to be yet another retail complex. Please, please, please, no more ugly (IMHO) monstrosities.
To the left, in the shadow, is a law firm, and the colorful one is The Indian Cafe.

Old Technology
High-end audio shop Living Sounds has been holding this clearance for some months. Among others, they told me, they had a complete collection of Dave Brubeck at the start. Ben and I had visited the clearance coveting, but Ben's started to digitize his music, so he's not buying CDs any more. Me, I still listen to CDs on my boom box with a cassette tape, but not MP3, option!

This is not a very good pic, (and a day later I have this bright idea of crossing the street to do this one over,) but this is the now-quite-famous yurt at the very popular The Free House pub and music venue. It's a radical, but not that rare in New Zealand, church-converted-into-a-pub.
Ben and I are not pub-goers and we've not been inside, but from memory it was conceived and still owned by Eelco Boswijk, son of this Eelco. (Correct me if I'm wrong?)

Headless?
This one puzzled me for many months (years?) until one day a few months ago I realized it is not a warning about the hazards of skateboarding but his head is only bent forward.
And it's clever. Found at the back of Paper Plus on the slopy walkway towards the parking lot.

Hardy Street 2 Years Ago
Sorry for lacking of new photo recently. I've got busy in daytime and less chance to wondering around with camera on my neck.
This is taken in about 2 years ago. Some shop have been changed but not so noticeable in this photo...
