Ben, How Are Your Guitar Lessons Coming Along?
Ben got guitar lessons last Christmas. (Well, in March actually.) I've only heard him practice once. (I heard him say "Eh? Eh? Eh?" repeatedly; it's a Christchurch, NZ-based program.)
And because I'm so impatient, he's already got the first of this year's presents last night: a couple of Son House CDs. Talk about music transporting you to another time and place...
Apparently there are 58 days left for shopping before Christmas. But we don't mind early/late pressies!

Happy 20th Anniversary (MX-5)
That will be a Mazda MX-5.
They are in Nelson this afternoon. I caught them when they arrived at hotel. I was just happen to be around there.
Two competition yellow promotional cars and few 2009 models.
There will be a great party on this long weekend.
I have one 1989/October build, sold on 1989/December in NZ.
Event Calendar at Club site or Mazda NZ.

Blackout
From 8:20 to 10:10 last night, a large part of the region lost power, and the airport runway and Nelson Pines were all we could see. The last of the airplanes arrive around 8:30, so by the time I switched off the flash and aimed again, the runway lights were turned off for the evening.
It was very quiet until for some reason people started driving around. "For what reason?", Daniel asked Anna-Marie in another part of town. We thought of playing a board game, but instead ended up rummaging through my sewing box by candle light for Ben's next car project.

A Little Concert
After the parade, there was a little concert for everyone to enjoy! Dan Hendrick wore the late Kim Merry's suit from the 70's. Kim was the guy behind a lot of Nelson events, the Masked Parade in particular. Kim passed away in August.
The girls are Liz and Katrina of The Nancies.

Green-Lipped Mussels
Specialty of New Zealand, these green-lipped mussels are often bigger than the blue-lipped kind. The township of Havelock about an hour east of Nelson claims to be the Green-Lipped Mussels Capital of the World.
Fresh
Cooked
Ben steams them with white wine, garlic and chopped spring onions; the leftover sauce is great with spiral pasta the next day. If you visit us, the first (and/or the last) evening's menu is usually these as starters, followed by rack of lamb by chef Ben, accompanied by Nelson and Marlborough wines.

Break Art Out
Meg read about the restoration of the mural and said she'll save the paper, but we must have used it to start the fire some time ago; we can't find it now. Anyway, this is the second time this mural will be restored in a little over 20 years, but this time two (?) windows and a door will be bricked up.
The paper called for volunteers and Meg really wanted to do it, but they requested fit people as they would be working on scaffolding above the sea, and since she hates coming down ladders (going up is OK) she gave up on the idea.
The artist Chris Finlayson said the mural will be almost the same but slightly updated when completed.
More here. The mural was previously seen here.

Theme Day: Contrast
It's spring here in NZ. I found this self seeding yellow pansy in our garden.
