Friends Nancy and Mark love Sprig and Fern on Handy Street. It's a pub, their coffee is good, and they have nice pub food. On Friday Ben and I saw the pies in the warmer and had Pork and Porter (their beer) Pies for lunch. The red drink is their limited edition cider. Their staff are a tad older than other places, so you're guaranteed good service any time of the day, but if you want to go for drinkies you're advised to arrive early because by 5 it's standing room only.
What I really wanted to show you was the tomato sauce (as opposed to ketchup) container that was a Kiwi institution up to perhaps the mid-90's but is fast disappearing. We still have ours!
Delicious photo - it's time for bed here in Minnesota, not a snack!
ReplyDeleteThese pies look seriously good ... dws~11
ReplyDeleteIt was piping hot, and yummy, but would have be fabulous had we had beer with it!
ReplyDeleteAny idea how these are made! And if you do, would you share? So pretty on the plate and I just know it is delicious!
ReplyDeleteNo, Pam. But I could ask the next time I'm there.
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy!! I love pies and these look absolutely delicious.
ReplyDeleteHow is the tomato sauce different from ketchup?
I looked that up once, and can't remember. From memory, there is one key ingredient that's in one and not in the other. Ben might remember.
ReplyDeleteI think ketchup must have vinegar in it's ingredient but it's not must for sauce? (http://www.answers.com/topic/ketchup)
ReplyDeleteBasically ketchup is also sauce so why you guys call it ketchup? Is that just because Heinz says so?
