Four Square Man
Done by artist Dick Frizzell in his capacity as a commercial artist, this sign was taken at the Havelock Four Square store, where I finally got my own iconic Kiwi affordable commercial art piece, the reusable Four Square Man shopping bag.
Notice the old Four Square Man had a pencil above his year, but not the new one. He parts his hair differently, and his tie color has changed, too.

Ian Longley, Stone Carver
Ian Longley, Concepts in Stone; stone carver and sculptor. His studio is at Founders Park, Nelson, and he can be seen at the Saturday Market most weeks.
It is bad luck to buy New Zealand Greenstone, or Pounamu, for oneself; it is best given as a gift. Ben wanted a fish hook for some years, so on Christmas 2006, he got one carved by Ian. About two years later, the skinny part broke, so I had Ian fix it and put on a new lashing, and at the same time, got Ben a whale's tail also.
Ben reckons it's time I got one, too, but I keep changing my mind about what color stone I like.

Meanwhile...
I was exhausted after the picture framing workshop and didn't want to cook. Ben reminded me of a conversation on burgers Keropok Man and we had on facebook, and Reels, a place 5 minutes from our house Keropok discovered. We drove by the place a few times on weekends but they were always closed.
It turns out they are open from Wednesday - Sundays, 5-9PM only, but when they are open, there is a constant trickle of burger lovers. We had burger takeaways both nights; Ben had a Bandares and I a Van Damme the first night; Ben had The Kong and I a Nimo the second night. Two meals come to about the same price as Burger King, but much bigger and nicer.

Fruits of Our Labor
Sorry these photos aren't sharp, but Ben and I had a great time going to a picture framing workshop at Nayland College Community Edification course, taught by one wonderful, lovely, generous tutor, Lance Trolle. It ran for two days, Saturday and Sunday, from the ungodly (to me) hours of 8.30AM to 5PM - well, a bit later than that! Ben went for the complicated double mats and double frames, while I went for simpler frames.
After we came home we looked at all the pieces we made: Ben had four, I had three, plus two small left-over frames, but I didn't reframe my parents' wedding pictures by the TV. We're definitely going back to Lance's class; Ben already has plans, and I'd like to strip and paint moldings we have to go with my textiles and/or frame a mirror.
Lance teaches workshops all over the Nelson and Tasman, and with the new government the cost of workshops will go up, but the charges for material is so low it's still very much worth it. Google "Lance Trolle" or email him if you're interested. Your photos, and other work, will love you!!
